About Your Results

Your Professional Fingerprint Is About Understanding Not Judgement

There is no pass or fail in the CJP Professional Profiler, and there is no ideal result you are expected to achieve.

Your results are designed to help you understand some of the professional behaviours you tend to prioritise, how confident you currently feel undertaking related activities, and how much you enjoy them.

The purpose is not to tell you whether you are a good jewellery professional. It is to give you another perspective on how you approach your work and where you might choose to develop next.

There Is No Perfect Fingerprint

Jewellery sales requires many different professional behaviours. Different customers, situations and responsibilities can call for very different approaches.

Your Professional Fingerprint shows the relative prominence of six areas across the choices you make during the Profiler.

A prominent behaviour is one that appears more frequently in your choices. A selective behaviour is one that you tend to prioritise less frequently.

Neither is inherently better.

A behaviour that appears prominently may be something you naturally draw upon in many situations. A more selective behaviour may be something you use when particular circumstances call for it, or an area you might choose to explore further.

The objective is not to maximise everything. Professional versatility comes from developing the range and judgement to use different approaches when they are valuable.

The Six Areas You Explored

Your Professional Fingerprint considered six dimensions relevant to professional jewellery sales.

Professional Drive

How readily you take ownership of your development, contribution and professional progress.

Product and Design Expertise

How readily you develop and apply knowledge of jewellery, products, design and craftsmanship.

Customer Insight

How readily you engage customers, start conversations, ask questions and develop understanding.

Communication Influence

How readily you communicate ideas, guide conversations and help customers progress towards decisions.

Commercial Growth

How readily you recognise possibilities, create opportunities and contribute to business development.

Professional Leadership

How readily you support others, share knowledge and contribute beyond your immediate responsibilities.

These dimensions are not separate job roles or personality types. Most jewellery professionals will draw upon all six to different degrees.

What Your Fingerprint Shows

During the Profiler, you encountered a series of recognisable professional situations.

Rather than asking you to rate how good you think you are at different skills, the Profiler looks for patterns across the responses that feel most natural to you.

One answer tells us very little, but across many different situations patterns can emerge in the considerations and behaviours you tend to prioritise.

Those relative patterns form your Professional Fingerprint.

This is why there is little benefit in trying to identify the “best” answer. Different responses can represent different valuable professional priorities.

Confidence Tells You Something Different

What you tend to prioritise and how confident you feel doing something are not necessarily the same.

After exploring your behavioural preferences, the Profiler asks you to reflect separately on your confidence in some recent professional experiences.

You might frequently prioritise a particular behaviour while still wanting greater confidence in applying it. Equally, you may feel very confident undertaking an activity that does not feature particularly prominently in your behavioural choices.

Neither result is contradictory. The difference itself may provide useful insight.

So Does Enjoyment

Feeling confident doing something does not necessarily mean enjoying it.

Equally, you may particularly enjoy an activity in which you have not yet developed much confidence.

Your results therefore bring together three different perspectives:

  • What you tend to prioritise
  • How confident you feel
  • How much you enjoy doing it

There is no preferred combination. Looking at the relationship between the three can help you make more considered decisions about your development.

Build on What Works or Broaden Your Range

Your results will suggest two different ways of thinking about development.

Build on What Works

A behaviour that already appears prominently in your fingerprint may offer an opportunity to build on an existing preference.

Development does not always mean correcting weaknesses. Deepening something you already tend to do can help you apply it with greater skill, confidence and judgement.

Broaden Your Range

A more selective behaviour can provide a different kind of opportunity.

Developing an approach that you currently draw upon less frequently can give you another option when customers, responsibilities or circumstances call for something different.

Neither route is inherently preferable. Your role, ambitions, confidence, enjoyment and current professional challenges should help determine where you choose to focus.

What If Your Results Surprise You

That is not a problem.

The Profiler is not asking you to describe the professional you believe yourself to be. Your fingerprint emerges from patterns across the choices you make in different situations.

Some results may therefore feel immediately familiar. Others may make you think.

Rather than deciding whether a surprising result is simply right or wrong, consider what might have produced it. Think about situations at work where you recognise the behaviour, circumstances in which you respond differently, and whether it represents something you would like to explore further.

The purpose of the result is reflection, not judgement.

Can Your Fingerprint Change

Yes.

Your Professional Fingerprint reflects the choices you make at this point in your professional development. Experience, learning, changing responsibilities and different working environments can all influence how you approach situations.

Your fingerprint should therefore be understood as a developmental snapshot, not a permanent label.

There is little value in immediately retaking the Profiler simply to try to produce a different result. Its value comes from considering the result you received and deciding whether there is anything you want to do with it.

Retaking it after a meaningful period of experience or development may provide a much more useful comparison.

How You Should Use Your Results?

Start with three questions.

What feels familiar?

Look for parts of your fingerprint that reflect behaviours you already recognise in the way you work.

What surprises you?

Consider areas that appear more or less prominently than you expected. Differences between your behavioural fingerprint, confidence and enjoyment may be particularly interesting.

What would be useful to develop?

Think about your current role, the customers you work with, your ambitions and the situations you find challenging.

Your results are there to help you decide where development could create value for you, rather than prescribe what you should become.

What Your Results Do Not Mean

The CJP Professional Profiler is a professional development tool.

It is not a personality test, intelligence test, psychological or clinical assessment, pass or fail examination, or certification of professional competence.

Your results do not determine whether you are good at jewellery sales, nor do they predict how you will behave in every situation.

They should not be used in isolation to make employment, promotion or performance decisions. Observation, experience, professional judgement and conversation remain essential to understanding professional capability.

A Starting Point for Development

Your Professional Fingerprint is not a label.

It is a snapshot of the behaviours you tended to prioritise, considered alongside how confident you feel and how much you enjoy the activities associated with them.

Use it to recognise what is already working, consider what might be worth exploring and make more deliberate choices about the professional you want to become.
